HELIUM SPRAY + RECOVERY

Vacuum Helium Spray Leak Detection System for Insulating Bushings

A dedicated power-industry system for insulating bushings: the workpieces and hood interiors are evacuated, helium is sprayed into the sealed hoods for mass-spectrometer testing, and the hood helium is recovered and purified for reuse. This is a helium spray process with no vacuum chamber around the workpiece.

Detection Process

How the Helium Spray Test Runs

The three stations run in parallel: the workpieces and hood interiors are evacuated first, then helium is sprayed into the sealed hoods, measured, recovered, and purified for reuse.

  1. 1

    Load and seal three workpieces

The operator manually loads one insulating bushing on each of the three stations and presses Start. The helium hoods lower automatically, clamp the workpieces, and form a sealed test space.

  2. 2

Evacuate the workpieces and hood interiors

The common evacuation system evacuates the three workpieces simultaneously. The hood interiors are also evacuated before helium is sprayed, with the leak detector starting at the specified vacuum level of ≤30 Pa.

  3. 3

Spray helium into the sealed hoods

Once the set pressure is reached, helium is automatically sprayed into the hoods at up to 150 kPa absolute. The Wayeal SFJ-231 helium mass spectrometer measures the leak rate for all three stations.

  4. 4

    Determine OK or NG

The system compares the measured leak rate with the 9.5 × 10⁻⁹ Pa·m³/s acceptance value. It displays OK for a passing workpiece and triggers an alarm for an NG result.

  5. 5

    Vent and recover helium

After the leak test, helium spraying stops. The system vents the workpieces, recovers the helium from the hoods, and sends it through the single-membrane purification unit for reuse.

  6. 6

    Unload and change over

The operator manually unloads the workpieces. The helium hoods, internal clamping blocks, and lower tooling use a quick-change design for future insulating bushing types.
